In the second half of 2009, Virginia Farm Bureau Federation began voicing concern about the Chesapeake Clean Water and Ecosystem Restoration Act of 2010, also known as Senate Bill 1816. In July 2010, the bill had been approved by the Senate Committee on Environmental and Public Works, and action by the full Senate is expected by early September.

Farm Bureau is encouraging its producer members to stand their ground in the face of proposed government mandates, and to let their senators and representatives know this bill holds potentially dire consequences for rural communities in the bay’s six-state watershed.
