The American Farm Bureau Federation <http://www.fb.org/>  recently honored Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-6th.) with its Golden Plow award, the highest recognition the organization bestows on members of Congress.

Jason and Paige Pratt of Pulaski County were named runners-up for the 2012 American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture Award Jan. 9 at the AFBF annual convention.

The Rappahannock Record in Kilmarnock claimed the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation’s top journalism honor and was named a co-winner in the non-daily newspaper category of the organization’s 2011 Journalism Awards.

The Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers Committee honored Edward A. Scharer of Albemarle County Nov. 29 with its 2011 Warren Beach Award for his long-standing support of the VFBF Young Farmers Program.

 

Christy Huffman Kerr, an agriculture teacher at Wilson Memorial High School in Augusta County, took top honors Nov. 29 in Virginia Farm Bureau Federation’s annual Young Farmers Discussion Meet. The competition was held at the organization’s 2011 annual convention in Norfolk. 

 

Rebekah Slabach of Halifax County has been selected as this year’s Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Outstanding Young Agriculturalist.

 


Jack Kerr of Augusta County has been named the winner of the inaugural Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers Outstanding Young Farm Employee Award.


 

Sam Gardner of Bedford County and John and Lydia Shepherd of Nottoway County have been named winners of this year’s Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers Environmental Stewardship Award.

Now in its 23rd year, the VFBF Journalism Awards program will recognize exemplary ongoing coverage of agriculture issues, practices and events by print and broadcast news operations.

Chris and Jennie Simms of Sedley were named winners of this year's American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture Award.

 

The Agriculture Council of America is holding an essay contest for students in ninth through 12th grade. Participants are asked to submit an original 450-word essay or two-minute video essay about the importance of agriculture.
